How Much Does a Gas Fireplace Insert Cost?

A professionally installed gas fireplace insert typically costs $5,000 to $8,000. That generally covers the insert, venting and installation. Your price depends on the appliance, fireplace condition and any preparation or finishing work required.

What Is Included in the Cost?

A complete estimate may include the appliance, venting, labor, electrical connections, chimney preparation, permits and trim. Compare the complete scope—not only the insert price.

Many direct-vent inserts use two liners through the chimney: one supplies combustion air and the other carries exhaust outside. The insert must fit the opening and room.

Review Ace’s gas fireplaces and inserts before comparing models.

What Affects Gas Insert Pricing?

The main cost factors include:

  • Brand, size, heat output and efficiency
  • Fireplace condition and dimensions
  • Venting length and installation difficulty
  • Blower, remote and decorative options
  • Electrical work and permits
  • Trim, mantel or masonry changes

Premium logs, interior panels, lighting and controls raise the equipment price. The right insert should match the fireplace opening, room size, venting conditions and the way you plan to use it.

Can Fireplace or Chimney Repairs Add to the Price?

Yes. Before installation, a technician should check for damage, blockages and water entry. A damaged firebox, chimney leak or deteriorated masonry may require separate repairs.

A new fuel line also adds cost. Ace does not install new gas lines, but our technicians can connect an approved insert to an existing, properly located gas supply. A qualified professional must install a new line separately.

Gas Insert vs. Gas Logs

Gas logs sit inside an open fireplace and primarily provide appearance and convenience. A gas insert is a sealed heating appliance with its own firebox and venting. It generally produces more usable heat and offers better control, but costs more to purchase and install.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a gas insert use an existing chimney?

Often, yes. A properly sized venting system can usually be routed through the chimney after the fireplace and flue are evaluated.

How long does installation take?

Many straightforward installations take one day. Repairs or custom finishing can extend the project.

Should I buy an insert before measuring?

No. The fireplace dimensions determine which appliances fit and can be installed correctly.
